![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
IC Information:
Name: "{...}" - his pre-incarnation can't recall his name, with {...} being his default label in most out-of-universe material. His reincarnation will have been named Yuri Ota.
Canon and Medium: Hanna is Not a Boy's Name - Webcomic
Age: His original was in his twenties when he died; Yuri will be 31.
Preincarnation Species: Zombie - formerly plain human.
Preincarnation Appearance: Here, and as he appeared alive on the right.
Any Differences: None between his original's and his reincarnation's living appearance!
Starting Location: Las Vegas, NV, USA.
Preincarnated History: HiNaBN is a very incomplete canon, by this point just about guaranteed to remain frozen partway through its third chapter.
As far as it did go, however, {...} is known to have woken from the dead with absolutely no memory of his life before unlife (aside from the fact that he may have had a name which started with a D - or was it an S?), set off to make the best of his resumed animation and get himself established in a new life, found himself with his hands on a business card for a paranormal investigator named Hanna Falk Cross (he forgot how he got it, exactly), and used it as a lead - he dropped by Ms. Cross's (or as it turned out, rather Mr. Cross's) apartment and got himself a new position as his partner as the first definitive piece in aforementioned new life, and from there he was followed through accompanying Hanna on three cases - one In Which There Was a Bat, And It Kicked Hanna's Ass; one In Which a Ghost Became Too Much of a Theater Critic; and on In Which a Clock Stopped Ticking. That last was the one that the comic stopped partway through.
The first, he wound up following along with very shortly after turning up at Hanna's door - as Hanna was showing his new partner around their H.Q. (his apartment), a man named Conrad Achenleck knocked at his door to enlist him in chasing a vampire (in bat form) out of his apartment. They paid a visit, forced the vampire into her human form via sigils draws with a magic marker by Hanna, a brawl ensued, and the case was called over as a bust when the vampire escaped after turning Conrad. Hanna led {...} and Conrad off to supernatural-serving back-alley doctor Doc Worth to get patched up as a trio.
The second led into the third, as call for investigation of a haunted theater ended with {...}'s temporary possession (and revelation of only two hints to facts about his life, with a quick flash of his death by knife murder and his being led back into control by a paper crane-shaped astral "guide" sent by Hanna and explained to take the form of something of sentimental value to the person whose mind it's in), the discovery that the ghost himself was murdered or "disposed of" in the theater while on the search for a selkie's stolen sealskin, and a shift in tasks to the discovery of the ghost's murderer.
Pursuit of said murderer led to Hanna and {...} crossing paths with the insane and maybe-cyborg Ples Tibenoch once in passing and a second time at his place of residence, where he cornered them and previous client Toni Ipres at said place of residence with a gun. The gun went off - and that's where canon cut off.
Reincarnated History:
( - California-raised. Has one younger brother.
- Works for a Las Vegas news publication; lives in an apartment on the strip. Maintains a blog.)
First Echo: What caused their first Echo, and what did it give them? Players may choose events from the timeline or a canon recurrence. Keep these Echoes simple, but meaningful, and keep in mind that returned effects/objects caused by canon recurrences must be directly related to the event giving them back. If re-apping, please include all of their previously-obtained Echoes.
Preincarnation Personality: {...} is a dead man who woke up at some point with no memory of life and therefore no idea what to do with himself. He spent some time alone, thought, and resolved to fix that by going to get a new one. He's got nothing to hold him back, and plenty of thought and to devote - with, again, resolve - to his here-and-now.
His position's a quirky one, but it's figured out and fairly simple. The fact that he's already dead gives him little reason to worry about his own needs or stew over his own thoughts, and with a memory wiped clean, he has a little less fuel for stewing anyhow. He's calm, goes with the flow.
Lack of memory's not to say he's simple-minded - he's far from it. In fact, he's sharp, doesn't let much past him, and is and deeply thoughtful - patient, placid. A man who's got nowhere to go and a literal inability to sleep has plenty of time to do nothing but carefully watch and contemplate. He's down-to-earth and matter-of-fact, and not emotive - he tends to express himself through laconic speech and through actions and demonstration. He has a sense of humor, but it's dry. Doesn't really care to be emotive; he's not all that accustomed to having other people around to need to emote for (though he does think to himself that he ought to start smiling more often for Hanna's benefit when Hanna claims he's keeping a tally of smiles from his stoic corpsey and crabby vampiric [Conrad] friends). He's practical. Doesn't even grieve his own lost life - he doesn't even know what losses he had to cut by dying and being brought back to life, and he may not ever; he lacks much ambition or drive because he lacks a direction, not even backward, as he's got nothing to work that way with.
He is, however, gentle, loyal, and one who likes people. His thoughtfulness extends outside himself, and he appreciates the same in others; he claims his favorite thing about Hanna is his empathy, although he also considers it his biggest weakness. He's concerned, vigilant, and he thinks about others all the more because, again, what has he got to worry about?
Wherever other people aren't concerned, however, again, he lacks a direction. He seems vaguely frustrated (and himself admits to being "guilty") whenever he's teased with small potential elements or hints to who he is or was being dangled in his face (the paper crane or insane-Tibenoch's posing the possibility of his reanimation as someone's experiment, for example), and apart from that, he only seems sad over his own death when thinking about the people who must have been in his life who he can't remember. In one side strip, when Hanna claims he's competent enough that he could probably take over detective work without him, he responds that he thinks Hanna is a fine partner and isn't leaving - and then he's rattled when it hits him that he doesn't know he never said something similar to someone he knew before his murder.
As he is, the people who he knows (and remembers) define his life - he lost all ties to everyone and everything when he was murdered, and he's not really living again until he starts in with Hanna; he doesn't like thinking about what or who he left behind when it's actually possible, yet happy to make a new "life" - in the role of the sort of figure of a cool, stalwart older brother.
Any differences:
Abilities: No active unusual abilities - but as far as visible, {...}'s undead-ness granted far more inherent advantages than hindrances. While he may have sensed temperature (he appeared to dress for the weather and time of day, though that may have been a matter of aesthetic preference), he felt no pain and could be taken apart and pieced back together no worse for the wear (shown for limbs; it extended to his head in a gag strip).
Roleplay Sample - Third Person: Some form of extended, third-person prose exhibiting strong voice and key behaviors of your character. If the voice is weak or the characterization appears to be off, revisions may be asked for.
Roleplay Sample - Network: Same as above, but in network-style format, using text, video, audio, etc. This MUST be on the network.
*Note: One of the samples (of your choice) must be done from the perspective of the reincarnated character, set within the game. Samples from the test drive community may be used for this purpose.
Any Questions? None!
